There is no more awe-inspiring sight than the mountains. Whether it’s snow-capped peaks in winter, Turkish, flower-filled mountains in spring, or colorful trees covering the slopes in autumn, it’s always a spectacular sight. But, as Canada Casino recently discovered, some hills are more beautiful than others.
The entertainment website has published a study that analyzes hashtag data from Instagram and TikTok to show the world’s most popular and most photographed mountains. It began using web articles as a barometer to create a seed list of the world’s most famous mountains. It then counted the number of mentions of hashtags on each platform and ranked the winners based on the people who posted the most on both platforms. After looking at the data, it named Japan’s Mount Fuji the most popular and picturesque mountain in the world.
“Mount Fuji was named the most picturesque mountain in the world, with a total of nearly 3.2 million hashtags on social media,” the site shared in the survey results provided to Travel + Leisure via email. “Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, is known for its beautiful cone shape and has the most social posts, with nearly 2.5 million posts on Instagram tagged # Mount Fuji.”
Mount Rainier is the highest mountain in Washington state after Mount Fuji. It has more than 1.3 million social media mentions on Instagram and TikTok, ranking second.
Table Mountain in South Africa, known for its rich wildlife, came in third with 1.3 million mentions.

The Matterhorn, located between Italy and Switzerland, came in fourth, with over 1 million mentions. Denali, Alaska, rounded out the top five with 1,024,409 positions.
As the rest of the list shows, you really can find beautiful peaks all over the world. In sixth place is Fitz Roy, a mountain shared by Argentina and Chile, followed by another in Switzerland, the Eiger. Among the top 10 was Ecuador’s Cotopaxi, at No. 8; The second is Half Dome, found in California’s Yosemite National Park; Australia’s Uluru was ranked 10th. If you’re wondering, Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, does make the list, luckily coming in at No. 13.
